Monofilament testing is a tool for making a preliminary diagnosis of sensory neuropathy in diabetes. The 5.07 pressure filament has been accepted as the medical standard for demonstrating the minimum level of protective sensation in the foot. The pressure required to bend it is 10 g (±5% standard deviation). The monofilament is available in the following colours: red, blue, black and white.
